‘Welcoming the Neophytes’ 2011
I have learned many things
When I entered the RCIA programme I had no formal religious background to draw from, with my early experiences consisting of weddings and funerals and occasional Sunday Services. Each Tuesday, I learned about Jesus, the Bible and the Church. I was introduced to different forms of prayer, meditation and ways of communicating with God. I learned about the history of our faith, about the life and teachings of Jesus and the struggles he endured.
From attending seminars and meetings I learnt about the Mass, the Gospel, the Eucharist and the Sacraments. And I learnt what it means to be part of a “Church community”, most importantly how to apply the teachings of Christ to my everyday life. Throughout my journey, my catechists, my sponsor and my colleagues were all instrumental in my walk toward becoming a practicing Roman Catholic.
I have learned many things in RCIA, the most important is that the journey of faith can begin at any time and it does not end with the reception of the Sacraments. Ultimately the RCIA programme has helped me to form a closer and more meaningful relationship with God, my family and friends. – Barbara Gill
