‘Christmas told through Parang’ winners – Apr 27
The Archdiocesan Catechetical Office, in collaboration with the Catholic Education Board of Management, embarked on a special project for all Catholic Primary Schools during the 2013 Christmas term. This stemmed from a request made by Archbishop Joseph Harris, that “ the Parang employed in Christmas observations in Catholic Schools be authentic”.
A competition “The Christmas Story told through Parang” was therefore utilised to teach the Christmas Story from the Annunciation through the Birth of Jesus, to the visit of the three Kings, integrating the spirituality of the season with the celebration of Parang.
Students at all levels were involved in displaying the knowledge gained through the medium of song, dance, art and craft. The intention was also to encourage parental and community involvement as well as to ensure that the teaching synchronised with the School Curriculum e.g. Math, English, Social Studies, Religious Education, to name a few.
Most students and teachers indicated that it was a valuable learning experience and the submissions and performances were of a very high standard. Congratulations go out to all the winners and each and every participant for a job well done. Special thanks also to the teachers and principals for all their efforts in support of the competition. In the photographs are some of the winners.
