Revived after retreat
The morning of Saturday, September 20 saw11 catechists (assigned to St Joseph RC Church in Scarborough, Tobago) wending their way along the winding, narrow roads to the village of Delaford for a one-day retreat. The exercise was coordinated by our leader, Bernadette Phillips. After reciting the rosary on board the bus, we engaged in some ole talk until we were all safely deposited at Sacred Heart Church. We received a warm welcome by our presenter Dawn Commissiong and soon plunged into the enlightening Book of Acts. She explained to us how the early Christians lived in community and urged us to evangelise others by our way of life, always remembering to tell others of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We were anointed with oil, and were encouraged to use the gift of tongues in our personal and communal prayer.
The morning’s activities ended with some lively charismatic verses and we made our way to the nearby presbytery. What a breathtaking view we had of the bay, surrounded by lush greenery and majestic mountains! Simple but sumptuous fare awaited us and we heartily partook of the meal. Before we knew it, we were once again on board the bus for our homeward journey.
We catechists now return refreshed, revived and renewed to our challenging and sometimes frustrating task of evangelisation…determined to persevere.
